An exciting 12-month opportunity has arisen for a Graduate intern position within the Regeneration and Growth Directorate of Waltham Forest Council, within the Cultural Leadership Project Team, people for the 2019 London Borough of Culture year.

The Role

You will provide support across the Cultural Leadership Programme, a new scheme set up to deliver leadership training, work experience and workshops to 100 young people in the Borough wishing to start a career in the creative industries. In particular, you will be directly involved with the marketing and communications, supporting external organisations to deliver activities for young people and with the administration aspects of the project. This role will provide an outstanding opportunity to help deliver a project from start to finish and get first-hand experience of how to conduct a high-impact public sector project.

Key Tasks and deliverables of the internship include:

  • Assist with the marketing of the Cultural Leadership programme to young, diverse residents of Waltham Forest.
  • Liaise with external agencies providing support for the cultural leaders.
  • Manage relationships with both internal Waltham Forest staff and external participants in the project and organisations helping provide work experience.
  • Assist in conducting a project to completion, with high-level responsibility working to an achievable goal.
  • Manage the administration requirements of the project, including application forms, reports and spreadsheets.
  • Assist a Senior Manager with general tasks as they arise.
  • Participate in training, company meetings and events.
  • Support and manage events.

The ideal candidate will preferably have a degree in a generalist subject, such as a Social Sciences or a Humanities subject. A candidate with a degree in Business or Management would also be welcomed.  Alternatively, a degree in another relevant discipline will be considered, but the successful candidate should have demonstrable interest in public service and helping young, diverse groups achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • Excellent work ethic
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computing and analysis skills and the ability to learn new IT systems
  • A proactive and hardworking approach
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • Excellent time management skills

Payment

£370.00 per week, 35 hours a week (Mon-Fri)
